1. General Company Information

KenGen is the leading electric power generating company in East Africa. It is primarily responsible for the generation of electricity using renewable sources such as hydro, geothermal, and wind.

The headquarters are located at KenGen Pension Plaza II, Kolobot Road, Parklands, P.O. Box 47936, 00100, Nairobi, Kenya.

KenGen generates the electricity. KETRACO then transmits the high-voltage electricity via power lines to substations. KPLC (Kenya Power) then distributes the power from the substations to the final consumers.

KenGen PLC has an installed generation capacity of 1,786 MW, of which over 90% is drawn from green sources namely: Hydro (826 MW), Geothermal (754 MW), Wind (25.5 MW), Thermal (120MW).

The current Managing Director and CEO is Eng. Peter Njenga.

2. Tours and Business Opportunities

Yes, all stations are open for visits upon prior booking and arrangement through the KenGen Tours Portal.

3. Olkaria Geothermal Spa FAQs

The spa is located within the floor of the Great Rift Valley, inside Hell’s Gate National Park, approximately 35 km from Naivasha town.

The spa is owned and operated by KenGen.

Yes. The spa is inside the national park, so you must pay separate entry fees to the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to enter the park, and a separate fee to KenGen for the spa itself.

KWS fees must be paid online in advance via the KWSPay platform on eCitizen (cash is not accepted at the gate).

Spa fees are paid separately at the spa entrance. Credit cards, debit cards, and mobile payments are accepted.

4. Facilities and Sponsorship Requests

The spa is generally open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:45 PM.

The main lagoon is naturally heated and maintained at a comfortable temperature between 36–40°C (96–104°F).

The water contains silica, sulfur, and natural minerals believed to relieve stress, improve skin health, and ease joint pain

Yes, the facility features the Blue Lagoons Conference Facility and grounds suitable for corporate retreats, team-building, and private events.

5. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Initiatives

KenGen’s CSR initiatives focus on three core pillars: Education, Environmental Conservation, and Water and Sanitation.

Projects include the provision of secondary and university education scholarships, the Schools’ Green Initiative Challenge (GIC) focused on tree planting and environmental sustainability, and partnerships with communities to provide clean water through boreholes and collection points. The company also rehabilitates roads in its areas of operation.

KenGen’s CSR activities are implemented through its philanthropic arm, the KenGen Foundation.
