Masinga is the main reservoir in the cascade, with a capacityof 1.56 billion cubic meters of water and is therefore used for water regulation throughout the year. The dam has an emergency spillway to mitigate excessive flooding and ogee weir free overflow spillway. The water is conveyed to the machines via two 3.5 meter wide penstock, one for each machine. The dam is equipped with a low level outlet gated channel which is used to maintain the cascade when the dam level falls below the minimun operating level of 1035 meters above sea level. The vertical Kaplan turbines drive two generators capable of generating 40MW of power. The power generated at Masinga is transmitted to Kamburu and Mt. Kenya region. From Kamburu, power is transmitted to Nairobi through two 220kv lines. The resovior occupies a surface area of 120Km2.

- In case of any fire alarm, do not panic. follow the guide’s instructions. he will lead you to emergency assembly point.
- Smoking is strictly prohibited in the stations except in the designated smoking zones.
- Carrying and use of drugs and alcohol is strictly prohibited.
- Provide a list of names of members of your team to the guide and sign the provided form after the EHS awareness briefing.
- Photography is prohibited. Visitors will not be allowed tio use data storage devices, for example: flash drives or hard drives. Such devices must be deposited with the security guard at the entrance gate.
